Baking Soda is Your Friend!

Recently, My Family started switching over to a non-toxic kitchen! Our transition has taken over a year and we are not done yet. It started with stainless steel pans and now we're only left to 2 plastic cutting boards. We're waiting to buy a nice set of wooden cutting boards because one is not enough.

Needless to say, it's expensive to transition to a non-toxic kitchen, but totally worth it. Now back to the stainless steel pans...how do you cook on it without something sticking to it??? Seriously, I've heard so many methods and have failed at trying them all. I needed a solution, Like My Mom says, if you can't beat them, join them! So, instead of trying different ways to cook on it, I tried different ways of cleaning it.

Luckily, My Brother-in-Law used to work in a kitchen and he suggested the Bar Keeper's Friend. Which totally works, but it has such a pungent scent, and truthfully I needed gloves while scrubbing. I started using Scrub Daddy natural scoring paste, which has a nice citrus scent, but can get costly for the amount I was using it.

I am no expert, but I still needed something non-toxic to clean my dirty steel pans with! My research felt endless, until I asked ChatGPT...why didn't I start there? I don't know. Baking Soda. It's cheap. It scours. It's non-toxic. All I do is rinse the pan as clean as possible with only the hottest water you can stand, then sprinkle about 2-3 tbsp in the pan and a dish soap of your choice. The more free and clear, the better. Give it a swirl with a sponge, and rinse with the hottest water you can stand! It truly is that simple!!!
